Holiday Spending: What Jordanians Actually Spend On

If there is one thing Jordanians do well in December, it is turning the end of the year into a full season of gatherings, last-minute plans, and unplanned spending.

Here is where our money usually goes during the holidays. No judgment, just honesty.

1. Food, food, and more food

Winter means soups, chocolate, coffee outings, and group dinners. Whether it is Mansaf on a Friday or a late dessert run, food is always the first expense.

2. Gifts and small gestures

Even when the gifts are simple, they add up. Candles, skincare sets, hoodies, perfumes, notebooks, or spontaneous “I saw this and thought of you” moments all count.

3. Travel and quick getaways

Dubai, Egypt, Aqaba, the Dead Sea. December is a popular time for short trips or even one-night staycations.

4. Winter shopping

Coats, boots, scarves, and that one jacket we did not plan to buy but could not leave behind. Winter fashion is always tempting.

5. Experiences

Concerts, Christmas markets, events, bowling nights, escape rooms. Jordanians love experiences that create memories.

6. Hosting and hospitality

If you host, you know the drill. Snacks, drinks, decorations, and extras. Small details can double the total without you noticing.

What does this tell us?

We are emotional spenders in the best way. We spend to create memories, show appreciation, and wrap up the year feeling connected.

Spend on what matters. Be intentional, not pressured. And keep space in your budget for the simple, quiet nights too. They might become your favorite part of December!
